Attraverso il recupero dei materiali, infatti, l’economia del riciclo contribuisce in maniera sostanziale all’eco-efficienza generale del sistema, determina significativi risparmi energetici e di uso di risorse non rinnovabili, consente apprezzabili riduzioni delle emissioni.
Con questa terza edizione dello studio si conferma che l’industria del riciclo non è un pezzo del sistema di gestione dei rifiuti. È, piuttosto, una componente importante e imprescindibile del sistema industriale ed economico nazionale verso uno sviluppo realmente sostenibile.
The industrial recycling system is one of the main elements of the green economy at domestic and European level, as well as a key component of the Italian manufacturing industry, largely based on secondary materials. If released from rooted stereotypes, the recycling industry – a long and complicated pipeline made up of collection, selection, preparation, and industrial reuse – appears as a dynamic and highly innovative business. But the recycling sector now faces a dual challenge: on one hand a long-standing economic crisis, with which it has been coping more successfully than expected so far, and on the other the growing globalization of secondary material markets.
Eco-efficient recycling is a detailed reproduction of the extent of this industrial pipeline, of major international trade flows, and of the specificity of Italy, one of the few developed countries where a strong recycling industry is still in place.
